Faith Travels From Scott Hicks...


                                     

When I first became a Christian; I prayed constantly prayed to God wanting to hear and know His voice!

Back when I had a secular job. - there was a day I was in my office praying fervently to hear Him and learn to know His voice. I was sitting there and my office door was open. The guys out in the building where I was working at that time; were playing the radio. Quite loudly too, I might add. I was a new Christian and didn’t really want to hear that kind of vulgar music, as it was the music I used to listen to before I became born again and all old things were passed away!

I found myself beginning to pray ever more fervently. “Father I want to hear your voice!

I noticed that I was catching myself singing along to the music, and I would stop myself real quick.

A few moments later, I would catch my self singing again, and I heard / felt “don’t sing that.’

A few moments later, I would begin to tap of my desk with the beat of the music, and I heard / felt “don’t do that.”

A few minutes later, I began to hum the tune, and I simply heard / felt “don’t hum that.”

I got real discouraged and pushed away from my desk and said: “God, I am trying to be a Christian. I am supposed to be born again. Why do all of these things keep on grabbing my attention? - Why do I feel like I am failing you?”

Then I heard my Fathers voice say to me: “Son, what did you ask me for?”

In that instant, I realized that He was speaking to me that whole time. He was saying: “Don’t sing that. Don’t hum that. Don’t do that.”

After I heard Him say: “Son, what did you ask me for?” I was so thrilled that I heard the voice of God and knew it was Him..
His voice is like nothing you will ever hear. It absolutely shakes my soul when He speaks; even though He spoke with a gentle whisper that time.

I quickly realized there was a few lessons to this encounter with His voice.

Number one: He was teaching me what His voice sounded like all those times He was correcting me. I just didn't know it was Him.

Number two: He was answering my prayer.

Number three: Why wasn’t I shaken by His voice the first three times He spoke to me?

Answer: Because, I just heard Him in the background. I wasn’t “really listening!”

After this event took place, all I wanted was God to speak again. I was definitely listening now. Days went by and I didn’t hear Him saying anything. I prayed "give me an ear that is always listening to you and blocking out everything else."

Out of the blue one night shortly thereafter, I was laying in bed asleep.

I heard Father say: “Scott, wake up son.”
I immediately woke up with eyes wide open saying: “Yes Lord.” He spoke again, saying: “I love you Scott, -- I love you.”


Needless to say that was one of my God encounters that happened to me that changed my life with His presence forever.

I heard God speak to me during my conversion and giving my life to Him; but this is my testimony of the first time I heard God speak to me after I came to know Him and actually desired to hear His voice.

I pray my testimony will give you a hunger to hear and know His voice, that can't be quinched by any other sound than His amazing voice!
