Steve's Miracle

Faith Travels from Steve and Lisa Walker...

One by one, as each doctor came into the emergency room, the news grew worse.  The first doctor said, "Lisa, we believe your husband blacked out from a brain aneuysm on his way home from work.  He has injuries to three sections of his brain.  His right eye has become detached and the optic nerve was severed from the impact-- he is blind in that eye, but we can replace it with a glass eye.  There's more, there are bones pressing into the front section of your husband's brain causing it to swell, but we are doing our best to control it."

One doctor even said that all of the bones in the right side of his face were crushed.  The last report from a doctor in the emergency room was, "That's not the worst part, we just don't really know if he's going to make it through the night...it's all wait and see now.  We'll know more in 72 hours."

Later on at the trauma unit in I.C. U. I was told by nurses and doctors that if and when he woke from the coma that he may be in a vegatative state and not know anyone. They told me that the best case scenario was that he would wake up and regain some of his abilities through a long period of rehabilitation of relearning the simplest of tasks.  Needless to say, I was devastated and my only hope was God.

My main request now was for prayer for my husband.  The hospital allowed me to have ministers and family go into the I.C.U. trauma unit to pray for him.  The I.C.U. waiting room was filled with friends and family and when someone would ask what they could do, I would tell them to contact every prayer chain they knew of to pray for a miracle for Steve.  People were praying all over the world from what I now understand.

Three days after the accident,  I received a call at 6:00 a.m on my way out the door to the hospital!  Steve had woken up and asked for me...he even gave the nurse our phone number. One week later he regained sight in his right eye where the doctors had said he was blind right before his reconstructive surgery.  His plastic surgeon told me in the hallway before surgery that if I had seen what he saw in the emergency room that I would know it was a miracle.  Here was a doctor proclaiming a miracle!  Today Steve has full sight in both of his eyes and we know that only God could have done such a thing.

During  this time at the hospital, God gave me the scripture, Romans 8:28 to stand on,  "And we know God works everything for the good to those that love God and are the called according to his pupose."   This scripture has come to pass in so many ways in our lives.  Now ten years after the accident, Steve is fully recovered and we have received so many blessings.  We now have a beautiful granddaughter and grandson born six weeks apart in December 2005 and January 2006.  God has been so good to us and taken what seemed to be a totally hopeless situation and has turned it all around for His glory.

Because of Steve's accident,  I founded a testimony ministry called Faith Travels Testimony MInistries that provides people with a voice and a platform to share testimonies of miracles and of what God has done in their lives.  I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that God still performs miracles and answers prayers because I have been married to a walking miracle for 28 years!
